The Muslim marriage app for Sydney.
From Lakemba and Auburn to Bankstown, Parramatta and Liverpool, Sydney is home to one of Australia’s largest Muslim communities. Zawaj helps Sydney Muslims who are serious about nikah find each other — with family involved from the start.
A big community, spread across a big city.
Muslim Sydney is wonderfully diverse: Lebanese, Turkish, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian, Indonesian, Afghan and African families, alongside a growing number of converts. Western Sydney has deep community roots, while many younger Muslims now live and work across the whole city.
Family introductions, mosque networks and marriage bureaus still matter, but they tend to reach the same circles. Zawaj widens the search to Muslims across Sydney — and further, if you are open to it — who share your values and are ready for marriage.
Built for how Sydney Muslims actually search.
Written proposals, not swipes
You express interest with a genuine written proposal. Conversations — including voice and video calls — only begin once it is accepted.
Your wali, built in
A built-in Chaperone/Wali feature lets a trusted guardian be part of the process if you want that. See involving your wali.
Privacy for sisters
Photos are moderated, you can blur your own photos, and verification, reporting and blocking are built in. Read more for Muslim women.
Nikah and the law in Australia.
In Australia, a marriage is legally valid only if it is solemnised by an authorised celebrant, and you normally need to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month beforehand. Some imams in Sydney are registered marriage celebrants, so the nikah can also be the legal marriage — ask your imam before you plan the date.
If your imam is not a registered celebrant, many couples also hold a civil ceremony so both spouses are protected in law. Our guide is a nikah legally recognised? explains more.
