A Muslim marriage app for Canada's Muslim community.
Around 1.8 million Muslims live in Canada, roughly one in twenty Canadians according to the 2021 Census. The community is young, diverse and growing fast. Zawaj helps Canadian Muslims who are serious about nikah find each other, from Toronto and Montreal to Calgary and Vancouver.
One community, spread across a very big country.
Most Canadian Muslims live in Ontario and Quebec, especially the Greater Toronto Area and Montreal, with large communities in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver too. Families have South Asian, Arab, Somali, Iranian, Afghan, Turkish, Bosnian and West African roots, and the number of converts keeps rising. Many households switch between English, French and a heritage language without thinking about it.
That diversity is a strength, but it also means the right person might live in another province, belong to a different community, or never come to the same masjid as you. Family introductions and community events still matter. Zawaj widens the circle while keeping the intention the same: marriage.

Nikah and civil marriage in Canada.
Marriage in Canada is regulated by each province. To be legally married you need a marriage licence from your province, and the ceremony must be performed by an officiant registered in that province. Many imams are registered, so couples often hold the nikah and the legal marriage at the same ceremony. Check the requirements with your officiant early, especially if one of you is moving from abroad.
