How to choose a Muslim wedding venue in the UK

Finding a venue is one of the biggest decisions in planning a Muslim wedding. This checklist covers what matters, from halal food and an alcohol-free policy to prayer space and seating. It does not recommend specific venues, so use it to ask the right questions of any you visit.

Start with the essentials

  • Capacity: guest numbers for both families, plus extras for the nikah and walima.
  • Location and parking: consider elderly relatives and guests from out of town.
  • Date: popular dates around Eid and summer weekends go early.
  • Budget: ask for a written quote showing what is included.

Halal and alcohol-free

  • Is all the food halal-certified, and by whom?
  • Is the venue alcohol-free, or can it be for your event? Can the bar be closed and nothing served on the day?
  • Can you bring in your own caterer, and what is their policy on halal kitchens and cross-contamination?

Prayer space and the nikah

  • Is there a suitable space to pray, with time to do so?
  • Can the nikah be held at the venue, or will it be at a mosque first?
  • Is the venue licensed for marriages, if you want the legal ceremony there too? Read nikah in London and how to register a Muslim marriage.

Seating and privacy

  • Can the room be arranged with separate or partitioned seating if you want it?
  • Is there a private area for the bride and her female guests, if needed?
  • What is the photography policy? Some couples want female-only photography areas.

Timings and music

  • How long do you have the room, including setup and clearing?
  • What are the sound and music limits? Many couples prefer a duff or nasheeds.
  • When must guests leave?
